One of the really promising use cases for gen AI in consulting is to act as a sparring partner.
Sparring partners aren’t about being ‘right’. They provide different perspectives that provoke better thought.
Looking at the same information from the lens of a different persona changes how you see the information.
Applying consulting tools (fishbone diagrams, SWOT, etc) helps you spot different patterns.
Our objective with Discy is to help consultants provide higher quality insights to their clients.
We see sparring partners as a critical part of this.
In real life, projects are and always will be time limited. There will only be so many perspectives we have time to consider.
That’s not true of AI. We can apply a different lens in a few minutes with a couple of clicks.
How?
Think of that question someone in the team will always ask - “what would X think about this”?
That’s the sort of thing you can quite easily use ChatGPT (or any LLM) to be your sparring partner for.
Create a persona for 1-2 of the key stakeholders in a project (what are they responsible for, what part of the project are they most interested in, what do they hope to get from the project, what are they worried about losing)
This is the first part of your prompt
Next summarise the key information you want to look at from different perspectives - being aware obviously of any data privacy considerations. This could be meeting notes, your draft report, etc)
This is the second part of your prompt
Ask how the persona would consider the information, what would be important to them, what concerns they may have.
This is the third part of your prompt
The more complex and dense the set of information you provide in the second part, the more likely you’ll get different ideas to spar with.
And consultants armed with a broader set of perspectives and more time to critically think will generate higher quality insights for their clients.
Where we’re heading with Discy
These steps are simple, but I can guess what you’re thinking? Still sounds like a lot of back and forth work yeah?
All those personas, different frameworks, all the different bits of data that are gathered across a project.
That’s before we even get to the fact that in most cases, client data and ChatGPT is a no no.
We hear ya!
It is a pain.
We know from first hand of as we’ve tested it out as part of our experimenting building Discy.
So we think turning sparring partner AI from a nice idea to a real life application will require:
A templated set of personas and frameworks you can pick from (and adjust as needed) - do the first step for our consultant users
Automating the process of looking across your data set from the multiple different perspectives - so all you have to do is click!
A simple UI that gives you all of those perspectives back on a single page for you and your team to spar around
And obviously in a secure way that means your clients data is safe and never going to be used to train anyone else’s AI on.
What are we missing? Let us know!
And if you want to be an early tester as we turn ideas into reality over the next couple of months, we’d love a chat!
